I wanted to update my blog consistently. But some other (un)necessary things kept me busy for a while. Now I guess I m out of that and here we go.
A lazy Sunday and i was simply engaging myself with some latest hollywood flicks. Somewhere inside the house I heard voices that were seriously discussing about the marriage trends of the current generation. Out of curiosity i went to the hall. Its just my friends who were discussing concurrently with a television program in which a debate on the same topic was going on. There were some youngsters and their parents who were discussing and arguing about the traditions that were known to me as a trend that existed a decade back. I wondered why they have to debate on such topics. But when some of my friends told that their family and relatives still incorrigibles I was puzzled.
Given the new life style thats catching up with the current generation, it seems that these old cultures and traditions are losing their importance gradually even though it is not so discernible. For several hundred years inter-caste marriages were a kind of taboo in Indian society. Even if some progressive minded families wanted to go in for inter-caste marriages, they were apprehensive to do it in practice for the reason that caste traditions did not match. But this is no longer valid As a software engineer I see a new social class that has emerged with a spread of IT jobs. A society of people whose way of life is almost homogeneous irrespective of their caste or culture. This gives the youth to look beyond the traditional ways which results in more choices.
Moreover the increasing financial independence at the young age is prompting the youth to opt for love marriages by choosing someone who fits their life style. Frankly,I don't see anything wrong with it. I grew up in this cocooned world, never doubting even once that there was something lacking i it,and there wasn't. Its a newly changed world with newly changed needs. We just have to adopt to it. So I feel that instead of having a debate on the traditional methods, they could probably discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new trend which might help the "incorrigibles" to find a way to better life.
